Immerse yourself in the highlights of northern
Spain and Portugal with our 6 night tour. Savour
the magnificent scenery of the Picos de Europa
mountains and soak up the culture of the city of
Salamanca so rich in architecture. And once in
Portugal, you head to the Atlantic coast, staying on
the beautiful Aveiro lagoon 75k south of Porto, its
historic centre a World Heritage site. Drive north from
Porto to Viana do Castelo and have your camera
ready for one of Portugal’s most famous panoramic
views. Perhaps take in the glorious pilgrimage city of
Santiago as you head to Ribadeo and enjoy the rugged
northern Spanish coastline en route to the charming
old village of Santillana del Mar.

Tour driving distance is approximately 1368km (850 miles).
This tour takes you from the northern coast of Spain
to Portugal’s Atlantic coast staying at Paradores and
Pousadas along the way. First stop is Lerma staying at
the historic ducal palace, now a Parador, overlooking a
huge square. Then on to the beautiful university city of
Salamanca, where the purest Spanish is spoken, and to
Mérida, home to a superb Roman amphitheatre. From
Palmela, drive to Lisbon, Portugal’s capital, steeped
in history and rich in museums and architecture, not
forgetting its nearby beaches and state of the art
aquarium, one of the world’s largest. From Lisbon, you
pass through Coimbra with its photogenic medieval
streets and nearby Roman site of Conimbriga, before
your overnight stay on the beautiful Aveiro Lagoon,
75k south of Portugal’s second city, Porto. Then finally
Bragança where the Pousada is next to the royal palace
and only a short walk from the town centre. The tour
rounds off with a night at the charming riverside town of
Zamora and finally the Parador at Cervera de Pisuerga
set in the foothills of the magnificent Picos de Europa.
