Hidden Loire 4 Night Tour: Bed & Breakfast
This tour follows a route through the heart of the Loire Valley
giving the opportunity to see some of its most famous
châteaux and fabulous towns such as Saumur, Amboise and
Chinon but also to discover places off the usual tourist track.
There is not too much driving between overnight stops
leaving plenty of time for sightseeing along the way. The
caves deep in the rocks below Saumur are used for sparkling
wine production but also where you’ll find a mushroom
museum - and if you have a spirit of adventure the
nearby Château of Brézé is where you’ll find a mysterious
castle within a castle - and Europe’s deepest moat. Enjoy
the immaculate formal gardens in Villandry (made of
vegetables) or see the inspiration for Hergé’s comic hero
Tintin at the Château de Cheverny.

Inspired by the cultural and architectural wealth of this
region, this tour brings to life the fascinating history of the
kings of Normandy (and subsequently England), William
the Conqueror and Richard the Lionheart.
Bayeux is mostly associated with the incredible tapestry,
a UNESCO Memory of the World, depicting the events of
1066, but it’s also a charming small city with a 950 year old
cathedral that was consecrated in the presence of William
the Conqueror.
The middle 2 nights of this tour are spent in Caen, a great
city to explore with plenty to see and do within walking
distance of your hotel. Visit the Abbaye aux Hommes and
Abbaye aux Dames as well as the huge medieval castle
founded by William and his wife, Queen Mathilde. From
here it’s not too much of a detour to visit Falaise, William’s
birthplace and the site of an imposing castle. Louviers, a
typically Norman, pretty town with half timbered buildings,
is half an hour from the majestic ruins of Château Gaillard,
designed and built by Richard (the Lionheart) de Bouillon, in
a strategic position overlooking the river Seine.
