The small seaside town of Arromanches is best known for its D-Day connection, and its excellent
museums pay tribute to the part it played with lots of memorabilia and a 360° cinema depicting this
important event in world history. In a superb seafront position, the Marine certainly lives up to its name,
with glorious views of the beach from its inviting bar, most bedrooms and the restaurant where you can

Bagnoles de l'Orne, Hotel Bois Joli
Ref: HF0619, Map G10, Bagnoles de l'Orne, Orne Rooms: 20
People come from all over to visit the thermal springs of this attractive spa town and stroll in the
gardens down by the lake. You can too when you stay in this family-run, Anglo-Norman villa set in a
beautiful park, close to the centre. This small and friendly hotel is traditionally French in every way from
its wood panelled walls and antique furniture, to the pleasant restaurant with its old fashioned charm
where the menu features locally sourced produce and a respectable wine list. Superior rooms, which
are larger, are available.

Bayeux, Château de Bellefontaine
Ref: HF1815, Map E10, Bayeux, Calvados Rooms: 19
In a perfect location less than a mile from Bayeux, this pretty 18thC château is in lovely extensive
gardens complete with tennis court and a small river with ducks and swans. Traditionally furnished,
bedrooms are all personalised, each with their own unique charm, and a good buffet breakfast is
available each morning. An evening restaurant serves regional cuisine and is gaining a favourable
reputation and, in cooler months, a welcoming log fire burns in the elegant lounge where guests can sit
and relax, perhaps with a pre-dinner drink or nightcap - we've heard that the calvados here is excellent!

Amazingly unscarred by the D-Day invasion, there is much more to see in Bayeux than just the famous
tapestry, and where better to stay than in this lovely, heavily beamed hotel at the top end of town.
Dating back to the 17thC it was once the British press headquarters after the invasion although comfort
today is much more luxurious. The Michelin rated restaurant offers excellent quality cuisine in a lavish
atmosphere and the bedrooms, all decorated in an individual style, are comfortable and spacious with
en suite shower / wc. Hotel car park & garage parking approx. 9€ / night.
Restaurant closed 24 Dec-31 Jan & Sun / Mon (15 / 11-15 / 4).
