The Ile de Ré, reached via a toll bridge from La
Rochelle, is a real treasure island with a diverse
landscape of woods, salt marshes, vines and a wild
coastline. You will also find great sandy beaches and
pretty harbours like St Martin de Ré - lined with bars
& restaurants it is an absolute delight to stroll around.
The villages here are lovely too with their narrow,
flower-filled streets, whitewashed houses, bustling
squares and colourful markets. For those keen on
gentle cycling there are 100k of marked paths to
follow through wonderful flat countryside.
This friendly 4.5 hectare site (230 pitches) is in the Ile
de Ré’s smallest village of Loix which is linked to the
rest of the island by a single narrow lane which winds
through salt marshes. The charming village centre
has a market, a lovely church and a good variety
of shops including a hand made soap workshop.
Facilities on site include a heated outdoor pool &
jacuzzi. Beach 800m.

Between La Rochelle & the resort of Royan, Sequoia
Parc is a perfect spot for enjoying the Atlantic coast
with its superb sandy beaches. Visit Bourcefranc
where you can walk to the fort of Louvois at low tide
or the citadel of Brouage surrounded by reclaimed
saltmarshes - good for birdwatching. Ask at the
tourist office about visits to the oyster beds at
Marennes (5k). The island of Oléron (15k) offers
a superb stretch of sandy beach at La Brée les
Bains, the morning fish market at the picturesque
port of La Cotinière and a bird park specialising in
breeding rare & endangered species. Royan (24k
south) has beaches of pale fine sand & to the north
lies Rochefort, built in the 17thC to protect the coast
from raids by the English.
This 640-pitch site is set in 130 acres of woodland
& well maintained grounds around the beautiful
Château la Josephtrie. There is a host of activities
on & off site, & children are well catered for with
Club Ibou & Club Minibou. Ask at reception regarding
reduced rate entries to popular attractions such as
the aquarium in La Rochelle (60k) or the little tourist
train through the forest of St Trojan as well as maps
for walking & cycling to explore the immediate area.
