This restored Renaissance palace where King Fernando II held his parliament in 1176 forms part of the original
walled enclosure of the town and has extensive views of the Elsa Valley. It's a fascinating building with a
lovely classical interior that features many rugs and lamps, wrought iron light fittings and wooden ceilings
whilst outside its pretty formal gardens include a pool (mid June-mid Sept). Enjoy delicious Zamoran cuisine
in the restaurant where menus feature an array of the region's gastronomic dishes. As well as standard rooms

The ivy-covered walls of this 14thC castle conceal an exquisite garden and charming Parador which
also happens to have the best restaurant in town. There are marvellous views from the tower,
overlooking the flat, almost empty countryside of the Campo Charro, hard by the border with Portugal
where fig hting bulls are raised in vast fields dotted with holm oaks. Cuidad Rodrigo is a wonderful
walled town on the banks of the river Agueda bursting with history and fascinating architecture and
its tiny winding streets and pretty squares are strewn with beautiful little palaces, churches and manor
