To an outsider, the restored paper mill in the tiny village of Laverstoke seems an unusual
place for Bombay Sapphire to make its home.
Laverstoke is backed by the famous hills of ‘Watership
Down’, and the picturesque River Test chalk stream runs
through the village down to the small Victorian market town
of Whitchurch.
Now this section of the River Test running through the centre
of the Bombay Sapphire Distillery teems with wildlife and is a
site of special scientific interest. A water turbine contributes
power to the distillery, which has been designed in such a
manner that it has achieved a BREEAM outstanding award
for sustainability.

An insight into the Glasshouses
Possibly the most instantly impressive part of the Bombay
Sapphire distillery is the giant glasshouses designed by
Heatherwick Studios. Housing living examples of the ten
botanicals which create the well-balanced flavour of
Bombay Sapphire gin, the glasshouses are designed to let
visitors discover more about the origin and habitats of the
botanicals. Having been sourced from the four corners of
the world, these botanical examples are nurtured in the
atmospheric Mediterranean and Tropical Glasshouses.
