À vous Londres !
“When a man is tired of London, he is
tired of life.” So goes the famous
phrase, and it’s certainly true that there
is enough in the city to entertain one
for a lifetime. But if you have only a few
days to explore, you can still quickly
get a feel for its great charm.
London’s heritage is among the richest
in Europe, and a visit to the city’s
museum district is a must. Children and
adults alike will be enthralled by the
avant-garde technology and
innovations of the Science Museum,
while the Natural History Museum
showcases some of the most
fascinating discoveries of the living
world. Among the most beautiful of the
buildings in this area is the Victoria
and Albert Museum, which houses a
vast collection of artworks and objects,
spanning 5,000 years of history.
Despite London’s size, there’s a huge
amount you can see on foot. Take a
stroll along the South Bank for iconic
views of the Houses of Parliament and
St Paul’s Cathedral, or meander
alongside one of the city’s canals.
Regent’s Canal – which celebrates its
bicentenary this year – offers a winding
route that begins close to Primrose Hill,
with its stunning panoramic views, and
comes to an end nearly nine miles
away, in the east of the city.
London is a truly cosmopolitan place,
and this is reflected in its food and
drink. Visiting one of the city’s markets
is a fantastic way to sample some of
the myriad culinary options on offer
– Borough Market is a well-established
gourmet hangout, while Maltby Street
Market is a quirky weekend option.
Heading further along the river, you
could take in the market of historical
hotspot, Greenwich; afterwards, walk
up to the top of its expansive park for a
wonderful view of the City of London,
and the Royal Observatory – home to
the Meridian Line.
As evening approaches, be sure to visit
the West End to take advantage of
London’s world-class theatre. There’s
something to suit all tastes, from
rousing musicals to offbeat fringe
shows. Day and night, at any time of
year, there is something new to
discover in this city every time you visit.
Part of London’s unique
appeal is its mix of old
and new. Be charmed by
both during a short break
