This exquisite corner of Spain is known as the
land of a thousand rivers. It’s huge coastline
boasts 750 different beaches as well as
producing a fabulous variety of seafood.
The Tower of Hercules, near La Coruña, has
existed since the 1st Century and was built
originally to the plans of the Lighthouse of
Alexandria. It has been in constant use since the
2nd Century and is considered to be the oldest
surviving lighthouse in the world. Standing at
55m (180ft), its neoclassical restoration was
completed in 1791, encasing the original Roman
tower and spiral ramp, which is still visible today.
The tower is a National Monument of Spain and
has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since
June 2009.

On connaît cette ravissante région espagnole
sous le nom du pays des mille rivières. Son
immense littoral compte 750 plages différentes et
produit une incroyable variété de fruits de mer.
La tour d’Hercule, près de La Corogne, existe
depuis le 1er siècle et a été construite à l’origine
d’après les plans du phare d’Alexandrie.
En fonctionnement permanent depuis le IIe
siècle, elle considérée comme le plus ancien
phare du monde. Haute de 55 m, sa restauration
néoclassique a été achevée en 1791, englobant
la tour romaine d’origine et la rampe en spirale,
toujours visible aujourd’hui. La tour est un
monument national espagnol et est inscrite au
patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO depuis juin 2009.
