Golf Barrière de Deauville, Deauville
Ref: FGN001, 18 holes - Par 71, 6509yds 9 holes - Par 36, 3317yds
The original 18 hole course was built by
Tom Simpson in 1929 and in the 60s Henry Cotton
designed a further 9 holes. All 27 holes of this
famous course run through woodland on the edge
of Deauville and although not long, the numerous
dog-legs and tight fairways demand accuracy from
the tee. It is maintained to very high standards.
Our opinion:
A ‘must play’ but often busy at weekends
with members from Paris.
Favourite Hole: 17th.
Golf Club de l’Amirauté, Deauville
Ref: FGN002, 18 holes - Par 73, 6659yds 9 holes - Par 32, 2167yds
Built on a former stud farm and designed by Bill
Baker, the superb course at l’Amirauté is a unique
marshland course with 7 long water hazards, wide
fairways and large greens. It gives the impression
of playing golf in Florida, & from the back tees this
can be a real challenge. If you are struggling with
the golf you can try to spot the 31 contemporary
sculptures found on the course, or have a spot
of lunch in the modern clubhouse, which serves
excellent food, and is in a superb spot with views
out towards Deauville.
Our opinion:
A great course, normally very quiet.
Favourite Hole: 3rd.
Golf de Deauville St Gatien, St Gatien des Bois
Ref: FGN005, 18 holes - Par 72, 6299yds 9 holes - Par 36, 3103yds
Between picturesque Honfleur and elegant
Deauville, this 27 hole parkland course is
surrounded by forests with superb, open views of
the Seine estuary. Half the course is in the valley,
while the last nine holes are on higher ground and
beautifully landscaped. The magnificent timber
framed clubhouse is a former 18th century cider
brewery and offers a warm welcome to all visitors.
Our opinion:
Definitely worth a visit.
Favourite Hole: 8th.
