Champ de Bataille
Sail direct to the region from Portsmouth or Poole, and you’ll find a choice of links courses along
Normandy’s west coast at Granville and Coutainville, whilst the other coast is steeped in the
historical connections of Bayeux and D-Day. Omaha Beach Golf Club has two courses next to
the eponymous landing beach and nearer to Caen there’s a great choice of golf including Golf
de Garcelles and Houlgate nearer to the city and the port at Ouistreham.
Chic Deauville is a big draw for visitors, and the golf’s pretty good too! There are three courses
nearby – the renowned Golf Barrière de Deauville, the wide fairways and multiple water
hazards at Amirauté and the parkland setting with views of the Seine at St Gatien. Further
inland near Pont l’Eveque you’ll find St Julien and further still (but definitely worth the drive) are
the magnificent fairways of Champ de Bataille.
Equally magnificent, but very different, is Le Golf Parc Robert Hersant; don’t be put off by the
name – this buggy-friendly course is beautiful and challenging with many water hazards and
island greens.
